SPECIAL DISABILITY TRUST SUBMISSIONS ENCOURAGED
Senator Mitch Fifield, Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Disabilities, Carers and the Voluntary Sector today encouraged interested parties to make a submission on the discussion paper released today: Greater Fairness and Equity in the Taxation of Special Disability Trusts.
Since 2006, families have been able to prepare the future care of their son or daughter when they may no longer be able to be the primary caregiver through the Special Disability Trust created by the former Coalition Government
Special Disability Trusts have made it easier for families of children with severe disabilities to make private financial provisions for their family member’s future care and accommodation needs without being affected by social security means testing
It is important for individuals and families with an interest to make submission so no unintended consequences are suffered.
Copies of the consultation paper can be obtained from www.treasury.gov.au. The consultation period ends on Monday 31st August 2009
