INTRODUCTION OF TAX LEGISLATION FOR THE VICTORIAN BUSHFIRE APPEAL FUND
The Federal Coalition welcomes the introduction of the Tax Laws Amendment (2009 Measures No. 5) Bill 2009, which through Schedule 6, provides the legislation necessary to broaden the purpose for which donations from the public can be spent in rebuilding bushfire affected communities in Victoria.
Schedule 6 of Tax Laws Amendment (2009 Measures No. 5) Bill 2009 gives legislative effect to the earlier announcement of the Assistant Treasurer, Senator Sherry of 17 August 2009 with respect to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund.
As was announced at that time, these changes have an effective date of 29 January 2009, just prior to Black Saturday, in order to cover the bushfires of Delburn.
The Coalition has consistently made clear its full support for these amendments, and will assist in the speedy passage of this legislation through the Parliament.
