FIFIELD SEES OFF EXTREME ROLLERS
Senator Mitch Fifield, the Coalition’s spokesman for Disabilities, today farewelled Andreas Dagelet and Dale Elliot, two paraplegic athletes who are handcycling from Melbourne to Darwin to raise money for charity.
Andreas and Dale will handcycle 5,000km to raise funds to treat Clubfoot, a condition common amongst children born in Africa. It can be treated at an early age with a procedure that costs just $200. The Extreme Rolling team aim to raise $200,000 to treat 1,000 children with the condition.
Along their journey they will visit more than 100 schools and community groups to speak to students and raise awareness about disability.
“Both Andreas and Dale acquired their disability through accidents, but neither have allowed that to slow them down. Andreas has already circumnavigated Australia once before on a handcycle, and Dale became the first Australian and second in the world to sky-dive solo as a paraplegic.
“They are a setting a fantastic example for all Australians and making a real difference to the lives of many people. They are to be commended for their fantastic and selfless work,” Senator Fifield said.
