MACKLIN NEEDS TO RELEASE REPORT ON TYPE 1 DIABETES NOW
Senator Mitch Fifield today called on Minister Jenny Macklin MP to release the report of the review of the Carer Allowance for carers of children with Type 1 diabetes.
“Minister Macklin has been sitting on this report for over a month and done nothing. The Minister has left hundreds of families in limbo,” Senator Fifield said.
“Carers of children with Type 1 Diabetes deserve better from this government.”
Following changes introduced by the government to the Carer Allowance assessment process, some carers of children with Type 1 Diabetes lost eligibility for the Carer Allowance once their child reached 10 years of age.
However, the burden of care these carers face remains unchanged. They continue to face an around-the-clock burden of care looking after children with Type 1 diabetes.
Jenny Macklin’s failure to release the report, or even respond to it, has left many families affected by Type 1 diabetes in limbo.
Minister Macklin needs to end the uncertainty for carers of children with Type 1 Diabetes and give her response to the report, or in the interim, the public release of the report.
