INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITY 2011
Senator Mitch Fifield today welcomed International Day of People with Disability 2011.
International Day of People with Disability is celebrated globally on the 3rd of December every year.
“International Day of People with Disability is a chance for people the world over to recognise the achievements of people with disability,” Senator Fifield said.
“Today gives us the opportunity to acknowledge the contribution Australians with disability make to our community.”
International Day of People with Disability seeks to advance society’s understanding of the challenges faced by people with disability, and aims to highlight the importance of supporting people with disability to live a life of dignity.
Hundreds of local community events are being held across Australia to coincide with International Day of People with Disability 2011, and Disability Awareness Week across some states and territories.
“International Day of People with Disability is a chance for Australians to work towards an inclusive society in which people with disability are able to fully participate,” Senator Fifield said.
“I encourage all Australians to get involved with the celebrations in their local community and help ensure the skills, talents and achievements of people disability are recognized and valued in our communities.”
