Nepean residents prepare for real choice under the NDIS
Assistant Minister for Social Services Senator Mitch Fifield and Member for Lindsay Fiona Scott today opened the Nepean Disability Expo at the Panthers Pavilion in Penrith.
Senator Fifield said the expo was an important opportunity for people with disability and their families to see the opportunities available to them with the full roll out of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in New South Wales.
“Like many fantastic ideas, the Nepean Disability Expo is community-driven,” Senator Fifield said.
“Its theme, Real Choice, reflects the opportunities for people with disability and their families under the NDIS.
“More than ever, the NDIS will ensure choice and control is in the hands of people with disability and their families.
“The Government is 100 per cent committed to delivering the NDIS in full.
“We have supported the NDIS at every step and demonstrated this commitment in the May Budget.
“Now we will make the NDIS a reality for Australians with disability and their families, including Nepean residents.”
In NSW transition to full scheme will occur between July 2016 and July 2018, which will support 150,000 people, including almost 14,000 Nepean residents.
“Under the NDIS an individual is assessed and has funds made available to them to meet their goals and aspirations, which they take to their preferred provider,” Ms Scott said.
“It means, with choice and control, people with disability and their families have important decisions to make.
“This expo is especially important, connecting local families with service providers and government agencies, along with products, equipment, aids and home modifications.
“It also allows providers to showcase their wares, build networks and prepare for this new way of doing business.”
