The Government has announced the re-appointment of Timothy Fairfax AC, John Hindmarsh AM and Jane Hylton as part?time Members of the Council of the National Gallery of Australia for three-year terms.
Mr Fairfax has been a member of the Council since 2011 and Deputy Chair since May 2013. Mr Fairfax is a businessman, pastoralist and philanthropist and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He is Chairman of the Vincent Fairfax Family Foundation and Tim Fairfax Family Foundation, President of the Queensland Art Gallery Foundation, Director of the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal, and Chancellor of Queensland University of Technology. Mr Fairfax brings significant philanthropic and business networks to the Council.
Mr Hindmarsh has been a member of the Council since 2011 and is the current Chair of the National Gallery of Australia Foundation and Chair of the Council’s Building Committee. Mr Hindmarsh is the Chair of Hindmarsh and associated companies, Deputy Chair of Boundless All Abilities Playground and is a Fellow of the Institute of Building. He brings significant business expertise and networks to the Council drawing on more than 40 years of experience in property, construction and business investment. Mr Hindmarsh is a long?time supporter of the Arts, and is Chair of the Cultural Facilities Corporation (ACT).
Ms Hylton has been a member of the Council since 2011 and is the Chair of the Council’s Acquisitions Committee. Ms Hylton is Emeritus Curator of Australian Art with the Art Gallery of South Australia and a retired art consultant specialising in Australian Art. She is currently Deputy Chair of the Nora Heysen Foundation and her background in art consultancy contributes strong curatorial expertise to the Council’s acquisitions program.
The Council is the gallery’s governing body whose members bring a range of expertise across corporate governance, philanthropy, marketing, curatorial and management sectors
