The Government has re-appointed Dr Helen Nugent AO as Chair of the Board of the National Portrait Gallery of Australia, Sidney Myer AM as Deputy Chair and Yasmin Allen and Jillian Broadbent AO as members for three-year terms.
As Chair of the National Portrait Gallery of Australia, Dr Nugent has played a central role in establishing the National Portrait Gallery’s Foundation and has actively built private sector support for the gallery. Dr Nugent’s academic background and considerable business experience includes chair and directorships in the investment management fund, energy and banking industries. She is currently Chair of the Australian Rail Track Corporation and a board member of Origin Energy. Dr Nugent has had extensive involvement in the arts including as current Chair of the Opera Review and previously Chairperson of the Major Performing Arts Inquiry.
Mr Myer is President of the Gallery’s Foundation. He has significant experience in retailing and investment businesses, both of which will be beneficial to his role on the Board. Mr Myer is a director of many Myer family businesses and is also the Chair of Asialink. He has a long history of social and community philanthropy including as Chairman of the Estate of Sidney Myer and a Trustee of the Sidney Myer Fund.
Ms Allen has had an extensive career in investment banking and holds several directorships in the health, finance and oil and gas industries. She is a non-executive director on the boards of Cochlear Ltd, Santos and ASX Ltd. Ms Allen was formerly a National Director of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is a current Fellow. She was also a director of Film Australia Limited and is a past director of EFIC, as well as a member of the George Institute for Global Health Board. She is currently a member of the Gallery’s Audit and Risk Committee.
Ms Broadbent has wide experience on boards of public companies and arts organisations, including as a trustee of the Art Gallery of NSW. She is currently the chair of several boards, both commercial and not-for-profit and has been a board member of NIDA, Sydney Theatre Company and the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra.
