The nation has lost a significant Australian and a talented artist whose mind and hand formed words and images that challenged our thinking and helped us make sense of events.
His advocacy for and practice of freedom of speech and expression through his work was fearless and inspiring.
His cartoons conveyed a wit, a humour and an insight that is rare and hard to replace.
His passing is a great loss to the media, the arts and to public discourse.
My thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues.
