The Turnbull Government has appointed three new members to the National Cultural Heritage Committee, Associate Professor Henrietta Marrie, Dr Janda Gooding and Ms Lisa Slade, on a part-time basis until 31 January 2019.
Associate Professor Marrie has over 30 years’ experience in Indigenous arts, culture and intellectual property. She currently works at Central Queensland University in the Office of Indigenous Engagement in Cairns and is a member of the National Museum of Australia’s (NMA) Indigenous Reference Group. Her work with Indigenous cultural and natural resource management, heritage legislation and intellectual and property law will greatly benefit the Committee’s work. Associate Professor Marrie has been appointed to fill the position specified under the Protection of Movable Cultural Heritage Act 1986 as a nominee of the Minister for Indigenous Affairs.
Dr Gooding has held a range of positions in state and national cultural institutions for almost 40 years and is currently the Deputy Director for Collections and Content at the NMA. She has previously worked at the Australian War Memorial and the Art Gallery of Western Australia in curatorial roles.
Ms Slade has worked in a number of art galleries across Australia, most recently as the Assistant Director for Artistic Programs at the Art Gallery of South Australia. She is also the Chair of Artlink Australia, a quarterly magazine on contemporary art from the Asia-Pacific region.
All appointees bring valuable skills which will strengthen the Committee’s expertise and commitment to Australia’s cultural heritage items.
The National Cultural Heritage Committee assesses applications for export permits and funding applications from the National Cultural Heritage Account and provides advice to the Government on cultural heritage matters.
