A Braeside business has won a prestigious award at the 55th Australian Export Awards.
Ego Pharmaceuticals was announced as the 2017 Australian Exporter of the Year as well as the
recipient of Austrade’s Manufacturing award.
The proudly Australian-owned family business has developed, produced and marketed innovative
dermatological skincare products since 1953. In 2016-2017, Ego Pharmaceuticals increased its sales
to China 179 per cent.
Senator the Hon Mitch Fifield said the awards honour the innovation and achievement of Australian
companies.
“It’s great to have a family business in Braeside recognised at this level,” he said.
“Our community is full of innovative and high-calibre businesses, who deliver effective, top-
quality products, so it’s great to see one like Ego shine on the national stage.”
Ego’s Managing Director Alan Oppenheim said they were honoured to receive the award.
“These awards recognise the commitment of all our 580 wonderful staff based across 12 nations to
the growing Ego world. Our growth is driven by a lot of passion, a lot of science and living the
family values of Ego. All our staff live the Ego Values every day, whether they are creating
products in the laboratory, greeting people at reception or educating healthcare professionals
about the benefits of our products. We are so grateful to have such a wonderful team around the
world and so thankful to have all our hard work and achievements recognised by Austrade and the
Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry”, he said.
Ego Pharmaceuticals was one of 77 finalists in contention for an award. Together, the finalists
generated more than $3.9 billion in export sales in 2016–17 and employ more than 31,000 people.
Senator Fifield said the Turnbull Coalition Government was pursuing an ambitious trade agenda to
create new export opportunities for Australian businesses.
“More exports equal more local jobs. That’s why we’re working to secure new trade agreements to
open new markets for all local and national exporters”.
