The Program is also offering cadetships to help regional and small publishers stay competitive and entice more graduates to stay in regional areas and contribute their expertise. 100 cadetships will be available in this first funding round.
Minister for Communications, Senator Mitch Fifield, said the package will open up new opportunities for students in Australia’s regional media sector and stimulate growth in smaller media organisations.
“Regional media outlets are continually challenged by today’s rapidly changing media environment. The new scholarships will bring through a new generation who are passionate about their communities and will help strengthen Australia’s regional journalism sector,” Minister Fifield said.
“The cadetships we’re providing will also help small publishers cut through and hire more journalists, giving them the backing they need to grow their organisation and help to support our next generation of journalism students,” Minister Fifield said.
Applications for both the scholarships and cadetships are open now and will close on 27 July 2018.
The Government announced the measures as part of its comprehensive 2017 Broadcasting and Content Reform Package to help strengthen our regional media.
