The Turnbull Government has appointed Dr Mike Haywood and Mr Peter Walker, and reappointed Mr Benedict Maguire, as members of the Council of the National Museum of Australia (the Council) for three years each.
Dr Haywood is the Founder and Growth Director of LiveHire Limited, an ASX‑listed technology platform for employers to manage their current and future workforces, and Executive Director of the LiveHire Board. He also helped to launch the Women in Technology portal, an initiative which aims to attract women to the industry. Dr Haywood will provide the Council with expertise in entrepreneurial business and information technology to support the Museum’s digital-based work.
Mr Walker is a respected art dealer with more than 20 years’ experience in the museum and gallery sector. He is a member of the Australian Antique and Arts Dealers Association of Australia and a valuer for the Australian Government’s Cultural Gifts Program. Mr Walker is also Chair of the Helpmann Academy Foundation and a member of the Helpmann Academy Board of Governors. His significant knowledge of the commercial, national and international antique and art market will be a great asset for the Council.
Mr Maguire has extensive experience in the business and management sectors. He is currently the Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Trucking Association, Chair of Remount Ltd and Director of Maguire Management. He has made valued contributions to the work of the Council over the past three years, particularly as Chair of the Council’s Audit, Finance and Risk Committee and convener of the Council’s Commercial Growth Taskforce. His business and financial expertise will continue to benefit the Council.
The National Museum develops, preserves and exhibits Australia’s national historical collection. The Council is responsible for the overall performance of the Museum, including setting the strategic direction and management objectives.
