The Morrison Government has announced the appointment of Mr Stephen Brady AO CVO as a member of the Council of the National Gallery of Australia (the Council) for a three year term.
Mr Brady was the Official Secretary to the Governor-General of Australia from 2008 to 2014 and served as the Australian Ambassador to France 2014 to 2017, to the Netherlands 2004 to 2008 and to Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Iceland 1998 to 2003.
His extensive experience in governance and international cultural relations will be a great asset to the Council. In particular, during his term as Ambassador to France he was instrumental in securing the Treasures of Versailles exhibition for the National Gallery of Australia and also mounting the largest Indigenous art exhibition ever held in Europe at the Oceanographic Museum in Monaco.
Mr Brady currently serves on a number of boards including The Ethics Centre, Bangarra Dance Theatre, the children’s education organisation Make a Mark Australia, and is a member of the Europe Australia Business Council. The French Prime Minister recently appointed him inaugural Chair of the France–Australia Centenary Trust from 1 January 2019.
The National Gallery of Australia (NGA) is responsible for the development, maintenance and display of Australia’s national art collection. The Council is responsible for the management and strategic direction of the NGA.
