RUDD ADOPTS LIBERAL IDEA
“Kevin Rudd’s one favoured idea from his expensive stunt the “2020 Summit,” that of establishing a new Community Corps, is a concept I flagged in my first speech to the parliament (see link below).
“I’m glad Kevin Rudd has taken up my concept.
“If it wasn’t already clear, today’s revelations confirm that the 2020 Summit was a complete waste of time and money whose sole purpose to generate positive media for Kevin Rudd.
“I doubt there’s an original idea from the summit. Taxpayers could have saved $2.6 million if Kevin Rudd just occasionally listened to parliamentary debate and learnt how to Google.
“The Community Corps concept is a good one, but the details of the government’s plan remain to be seen.
“I am not convinced this Government is capable of implementing this idea effectively. Their bungling of so many issues means there are serious doubts over their ability to properly deliver.
“If the Government wants to help students reduce their HECS debt burden, why are they re-introducing compulsory student amenities fees?
“It is also ironic the Government is seeking to help students at the same time they are denying thousands the opportunity to study by abolishing domestic fee paying places.
“Today’s reports confirm that the 2020 Summit was nothing more than a $2.6 million PR exercise for Kevin Rudd.”
