The Turnbull Government has announced $33,000 to support the tour of the William Robinson Genesis exhibition to Washington and Paris in 2017 and 2018.
The Government will provide funding to the Queensland University of Technology through the International Cultural Diplomacy Arts Fund to tour this high quality exhibition by one of Australia’s greatest living artists.
Federal Member for Brisbane Trevor Evans MP said the funding was another win for the Brisbane arts scene, which has become world-renowned.
“This funding is just another example of the Turnbull Government’s commitment to see the Brisbane arts scene flourish,” he said.
“I have worked hard with my Queensland colleagues to ensure Queensland, along with Brisbane, gets its fair share of Federal funding, which currently sits lower than every other state as a proportion of population.”
Mr William Robinson AO began painting in the 1960s and has since received the Archibald Prize twice and the Wynne Prize for landscape painting. His work showcases Australia’s natural environment, culture and heritage, which will be shared with international audiences through this tour.
The works in the Genesis exhibition feature a range of materials that highlight Robinson’s technique and use of colour and texture, including some of his award winning self-portraits and Creation series landscapes.
The exhibition will be displayed in the Australian Embassy in Washington later in 2017 before moving to the Australian Embassy in Paris until 2018.
Showcasing the exhibition in the United States and France will help to strengthen Australia’s relationships with both countries and promote cultural and artistic exchange.
The Government is committed to supporting Australian artists and promoting Australia’s rich and vibrant arts sector internationally and locally.
